Splitting Composer data to multiple columns in Excel

Some older database applications may export all composer and all publisher data (name, affiliation, share ..) to a single column, when you export the metadata to a comma separated or tab delimited file.

The NetMix system stores each composer name, affiliation and share in a separate column as recommended in the "metadata standard for production music" developed by the PMA (Production Music Association).

Example of incorrectly formatted Composer column:

IF your source data is consistently formatted and contains a 'delimiter', then you can use a function in Excel to split the composer and publisher data into multiple columns.

Excel has a feature called "Convert Text to Columns":
